The Richland Citizen, 06 Mar 1941, Thursday: John H. Zirkle who was a prominent and successful farmer, and lived in this vicinity practically all his life excepting a few years spent in the Mercantile business in Harveyville, died at St. Francis hospital in Topeka Saturday night, March 1, following an operation performed the preceding Wednesday. Mr. Zirkle, the son of Susanna and William Zirkle, was born in Champaign county, Ohio, April 3, 1865, and came with his family to Richland in 1869. He was a member of the Richland U. B. church and Blue Lodge No. 79 at Burlingame and Scottish Rite of Topeka. Mr. Zirkle had served as public officer in the township for many year(s), giving liberally of his time to such duties as devolve upon them. He was united in marriage with Miss Ida Largeant and to this union were born two daughters. They are Miss Zola Zirkle of the home and Mrs. Wilma Woodward of Richland, who with Mrs. Zirkle, survive. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Galen, Eldon, Phyllis and Wayne Woodward, and six brothers: Charles M. Zirkle of Berryton; Emery J. of Delia; Wallace E., San Diego, Calif.; David L. of Winfield; Wm. E. of Richland, and Claude of Topeka. Services were held at Pleasant Hill Church Wednesday afternoon about 2 p.m. in the Pleasant Hill cemetery. The Topeka Scottish Rite conducted the funeral service and the Blue Lodge No. 79 of Burlingame, the services at the cemetery. Same edition: Our little community is very much saddened this week by the death of our friend and neighbor, John Zirkle. May the dawning of a new tomorrow help ease the pain of your recent sorrow.
