August Benz war der erste, der ins Schaustellergeschäft einstieg. Als ein Zigeuner bei ihm überwinterte und nicht bezahlen konnte, ließ jener ein Karussell als Bezahlung zurück. Gegen den Willen seiner Ehefau ging August mit seinem Sohn Karl auf die Reise. nach wenign Jahren hatte er genug Geld um sich ein neues Karussell zu kaufen. Später übernahm sein Sohn Karl das Schaustellergeschäft.
