Former longtime Caney resident Bertha Elizabeth (Harris) Ziegenfuss, 89, Dewey, Okla., died Monday, April 23, 2001 in Dewey. Her funeral service will be held Thursday, April 26, at 2 p.m. at the Graves Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery, Caney. A memorial has been established to the Caney United Methodist Church.
Bertha Elizabeth Ziegenfuss was born Aug. 25, 1911, in Washington County, Okla. to Ernest Ransom and Lilly May (Lagel) Harris. On April 8, 1939, at Bartlesville, Okla., she married Herschel Ziegenfuss, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 19, 1968. She was the owner and operator of Berthas Beauty Shop in Caney, Kan. She was active in the United Methodist Church of Caney.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers, Floyd, Vernal and Lawrence. She is survived by one sister, Agnes Williams, Sperry, Okla., and many nieces and nephews.
Graves Funeral Home of Caney is in charge of arrangements.
