Coonrod RIN 548 Baptised as Johan Conrad Guentner he always signed his name Coonrod In 1849, Conrad/Coonrod petitioned for land as a son of George Kentner UE (SUE) The form he used was different from others and required the names & ages of his siblings. These ages converted to dates have been religiously followed by researchers for years even though Coonrad didn't list his oldest brother John, born 1768 (according to the KRR NY muster rolls.) Why not? There is no data re the John born 1768 in or near 1792 the year that Coonrad was born. Coonrad's daughter, Lavina was born in 1816, in Dundas, the year that Coonrad first bought land in Waddington NY. The same year John (b 1773) & Frederick petitioned for land as SUEs, their petitions were submitted in Cornwall on July 1816, signed by John with an"X" & Frederick with his name. If Coonrod did know or knew about his oldest brother John b 1768 Coonrod would no doubt have listed him in 1849. George had married Evaline??? & Wiliam had married Laura ??? I saw a copy of George's daughter Angeline Kentner Gray's death certificate, and thereon was her Mother's maiden name Evaline PEELE. In the 1910 & 1920 Lisbon Censi, Laura was listed as 'aunt' of George Sparrowhawk whose mother was an Odell meaning Laura was either Sparrowhawk or Odell. " At Surrogate Court in Potsdam a will was found for Abraham ODELL which lists daughters Phoebe Akin, Sarah Sparrowhawk, Mary Sparrowhawk, John Odell and Laura Kentner, "a daughter whose place of residence is unknown to petitioner and cannot after due diligence be ascertained by her." (Petitioner was widow, Miriam)." In the 1830 Madrid Census she was with spouse Jonathan Whipple & son Levi possibly living with or near Coonrod & family. That John of course was the one born in 1773 so Coonrod must have known him. Neley is Coonrad's sister Eleanor who married John Hoople in 1784. She died in 1855 according to E L Hoople, the author of "Hooples of Hooples'Creek" Harer (Sarah or Hannah)) married Levi Bancroft & we do know that she was alive when Coonrad petitioned for land in 1849 as he listed her as "sixty seven" & was in the 1861 ON census. Frederick & Mary Knight, his wife did die in Nov 1857 one week apart and their funerals were held in Inkerman where the Knights lived and where there was a Knight cemetery. (Ontario Register Vol 4) Elenor was Lucinda's younger sister who was married to a Peters & then a Sylvester. Having dealt with his siblings and two nieces he turned to Lucinda's two of Lucinda's oldest children, Levi & Jane. Of course we all know that Lovina, William, Maria, Amos, George, Gardner & baby Hariett were his own kids. The church, known as the 'Brown Church' was built on his son George's farm, two farms west of his own, and was torn down about 1975 WILL Coonrod Kentner's made out his will on 27th June, 1877 In the name of God, Amen. Coonrad died at age 84. Also this petition by Eliza: "To The Surrogate Court of the County of St. Lawrence ..The Petition of Eliza Kentner ...respectfully showeth that Conrad Kentner of the town of Waddington ...died in or about the month of August 1877 , he left personal & real property and an infant child, Mary Kentner of the age of eleven years.....your Petitioner being the Mother of the said infant"...." She then went on to apply to have Edmund Fenton, a relative, designated as the minor girl's guardian. Dated 26Feb1878 Now we see how the Fenton's fit in and were Eliza's children by an earlier marriage. Edwin in the 1870 Census was the same as Edmund in the petition and was above 18 (actually 26) in 1878 so could be a legal guardian for his step sister. 1815 29 May Conrad bought the E3/4 of the W©ルa of Lot 11 Con 1, Matilda 78©ルc ac 1816 2 Nov bought 79 acres in Madrid Twp on the bamk of the St Lawrence river $400 1818 3 Mar Conrad sold the land in Matilda Twp SUE Petition on 1849-11-20 lists names & ages of siblings and name of mother C2122 K5/23 Requested ℗£40 in lieu of a land grant; recommended OC 1850 27 March Captain Richard D.
