Levi-no info on him but I do have 2 pictures identified as "Lee." One is of him on a bicycle. It is dated on the back Oct. 15, 1895. It looks like he is wearing spandex. Hi, I am from Sibley, IA (Osceola Co.) and came across your family tree. I have info. on the Shell family who lived in this area for many years. Levi Shell's second marriage was to Lucy Brown, who was born in Patch Grove,WI on Dec. 29, 1854 to Luther and Elizabeth Fitch Brown. She was the youngest of nine children. Her brother Charles E. Brown had come here to Sibley,IA in the early 1870's to establish Brown Mercantile. Lucy came here to teach school in 1876 and met Levi Shell, a widower with two young daughter's Maude and Mabel. Levi and Lucy were married Nov. 12, 1879. Maude Shell went on to marry George Newell, and then died Mar. 29, 1920 in Portland, Oregon. Mabel married Otto G. Lehman. Levi and Lucy had two daughters together; Nellie L. who married Harlow A. Clark and Vera who married J.R. Bahne. Levi died June 1923 at Sibley. At the time of Lucy's death 1941 she had 6 grandchildren; Alice Newell(Milton Reed)of Seattle, WA; Ruth Aldren Clark(Sydney G. Wake) of Detroit,MI; Robert Harlow Clark, Alden Shell Clark and James Woodruff Clark, of Marquette,MI and Elizabeth Bahne of Chicago. and one great grandchild; Lois May Reed of Seattle,WA. I have more information but will wait to hear from you. Dia Hi Kent, I am thrilled to be able to get back to you with a lot of new information about the Shell family. But first of all, I enjoyed the old photo of Ahlf Drug Store. Yes, you are right about the town of Wgtn. changing so much! When I was in high school my friends and I thought it was the most wonderful thing to travel to Wgtn. on Friday nights to go shopping. We could spend hours up and down main street going into all the shops. Then came the mall & now even that is a big disappointment with only a few shops left in it. There is not much retail business left in Sibley. It all fell apart after the farm crisis. So, back to the Shell family. I have found the Rolla that I was looking for. His full name was William Rolla Shell, son of Wm. & Kate Mack Shell, born on a farm near Prarie du Sac, Wis. on Dec. 19, 1876. Came to Sibley, IA in 1899 to work as a bookkeeper for his uncle Levi Shell at the lumber yard. He married Alice E. Parker June 7, 1899. They had three children-Alice Marie who died at age 2 in 1902, Gertrude & Kentner W.!! So I've found the Kentner I was looking for also! Rolla died on Oct. 11, 1951 at age 74, his wife Alice died 1949. They are buried in Holman Twp. cemetery near Sibley, along with their daughter Alice Marie. I have also found that Levi Shell's first wife was Alice Mack. Possibly related to Rolla's mother Kate Mack? Alice Mack was born 1845 & died Jan. 16, 1878, buried Holman Twp. Cemetery. I also found that Levi's brother David George Shell worked in Sibley in the livery business and also as a hotel keeper. His wife Sophie E. died in 1878 at LuVerne,MN and is buried at Holman Twp. Cemetery just south of Sibley. David & Sophie had a little boy Guy C. who died in 1875 at the Sibley Hotel (the hotel that David managed). Guy is also buried at Holman Cem., however David is not. There are two others buried in the same lot as Sophie & Guy; Lucy C. died 1875 and Margaret died 1900. Levi & Lucy Brown Shell had a infant son born & died June 1883. Levi, both his wives and infant son are buried at Holman Cem. A total of 11 Shell's buried in Osceola County. In the Osceola Co. birth index I only found two Shells, Gertrude Ester(dau.Rolla) born 1906 and Nellie Lovina (dau. Levi)born 1883. The obits for Levi & Lucy are in 2 parts Levi Shell obit-June 14, 1923,Osceola Co. Tribune. Levi Shell funeral-June 21,1923,Osceola Co. Tribune Lucy Shell obit-1941 Mrs. D.G. Shell's obit-Sept.26,1878,Sibley Gazette Levi Shell ad-Jan. 11, 1884,Osceola Co.
