After getting out, he dropped the names Andrew William, and went by Earl for the rest of his life. He was a fisherman in 1914-1916?; an engineer on a sailing/oil burning ship 1919-1920; worked on an orange ranch in Corona, Calif, 1920-23; worked in oilfields on Signal Hill, Calif., for Richfield Oil Co (now ARCO) until WW II; during WW II he went back to sea for 2-3 trips returning in 1945 to work again at Richfield Oil as a pumper until his death in 1950. !RESIDENCES: The first listing I have found places him in Newport Beach, Calif., no address given, 1914; next is 908 Stafford St., Santa Ana, Calif., in 1920; from there, after wife arrived from Australia, to a farm/ranch house in an orange grove in Corona, Calif, 1921; in 1924 they lived at 2205 Almond Ave, Long Beach, Calif-listed in the city directory, copied from film # 1841602, FamHisLibrary, SLC, Utah, Mar 1994; in 1924 the family moved to 232 E. 67th St, Long Beach, CA, and remained, film #1841603, FHL, Salt Lake City, Utah, Mar 1995, copied by June WALLING. DEATH-CAUSE: Listed as Earl Ahlf, State of California, d. cert. file #50-034600 Registrar # A410, District # 1903. Primary cause-bronchogenic carcinoma right lung, with metastatis to suprarenal bilateral and to the brain. Other significant condition-bronchial asthma of several years duration, signed by Dr. Raymond KELSO; Earl was a heavy smoker.5, in Calif. History Room from microfilm-Long Beach (Calif.)
