Margaretha Stringfellow, 81, Greencastle, Ind., retired DePauw University housemother, died at 10 : 10 a . m . Monday (June 5 , 1989) at Elkhart General Hospital, Elkhart, Ind. She had been in ill health since March. She was born Feb. 19, 1908, in Elkhart. As Margaretha Catherine Borneman (daughter of the late Edward C. and Pauline Shaw Borneman) she married Carlton B. Stringfellow on Sept. 23, 1930, in Elkhart. He died Sept. 3, 1952, in Huntington, Ind. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Robert E . (Jane Ann) McGinn, West Lafayette; two sons, Carlton B . Jr., Queensburg, Md., and James, Elkhart; nine grandchildren; five great - grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. C. Whitney (Mary) Slabaugh, Elkhart; and a brother, Edward C. Jr., Elkhart. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hartzler-Gutermuth Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Richard Kallenberg will officiate. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Hope Cemetery, Huntington. Mrs. Stringfellow was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Greencastle, and a former member of St. John' s Episcopal Church, Elkhart. She was a graduate of Elkhart High School and attended Milwaukee-Downer Preparatory School, Milwaukee, Wis. Also, was a graduate of Indiana University, where she was affiliated with Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and was of member of Kappa Kappa Kappa Sorority and the PEO Sisterhood. After the death of her husband, she became a housemother at the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity at DePauw University, Greencastle, where she worked for 25 years. The National fraternity honored her at a retirement dinner in April 1988. Memorials may be given to St. John's Episcopal Church or United Cancer Services of Elkhart County. Elkhart Truth
