Ronnie was born in Elkhart to Ainnie S. and Carl F. Gygi on June 13, 1946. He graduated from Elkhart High School in 1964 and enlisted in the United States Air Force. Ronnie served in the air force from 1964-1968 and was stationed at Kincheloe Air Force Base in Sault Saint Marie, MI. In 1967 he married his high school sweet heart, W. Inez Overton. After he was discharged from the military they moved to Tacoma Park Maryland where Ronnie and Inez both worked for the government at Vitro Labs. In 1973 He moved back to Elkhart with his family and worked the remainder of his career as an Electronics technician, retiring from Konica Minolta in 2007. During his lifetime Ronnie was an avid collector of many things. He most enjoyed collecting stamps, coins, and antique radios. As an electronics technician he would find old radios and restore them to working condition. Ronnie’s favorite music was blues. He spent his free time singing and playing blues music on the guitar and harmonica. He had a green thumb and grew a garden every year, consisting of all sorts of vegetables. He enjoyed being outside and would spend many summer days out in the yard tending his garden. Ronnie loved animals and would help injured and homeless animals whenever he could. Most recently feeding and taking care of abandoned cats that showed up on his doorstep. Ronnie was greatly loved by his family. He had a great sense of humor that kept everyone laughing. He had a kind, gentle spirit. He was a devoted husband and a caring father. He treated others, as he would like to be treated and taught his children to do the same. He was preceded in death by his parents Carl F Gygi (1950) and Ainnie S. Gygi (1993), his sister, Wauneta Sanchez (2012), his brother, Leroy Gygi (2012), and his son Carl E. Gygi (2018). He is survived by his devoted wife W. Inez Gygi, his daughter Kathy Cora (Carl), his son Troy Gygi (Tiffany), his grandchildren Allyson Luczkowski (Paul), Zachary Cora, Gus Gygi, a great grandson, Logan Luczkowski. Visitation will be held Friday, October 9, 2020 from 5-7 p.m. at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Rice Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Wounded Warriors Project.
