She divorced himafter thewar in 1947 and then told everyone that she was nevermarried. Gertrudewanted to forget that time in her life. Gertrude came to U.S.A. in 1947 to be with her parents, who had comeherein 1945. She did not have a trade, so Gertrude had many jobs suchas amaid and factory worker. She worked in the Croswell PickleFactory untilher hands became badly infected for she was allergic tothe brine. In 1965, she and her father, Richard, went back to Germany.Gertrudeworked in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen Olympic Ice Stadium asacashier.She became sick in 1973 and decided to return to U.S.A. to benear hersister, Sophie. After Sophie's death in 1988, she moved toSt. Clair,Michigan to a Retirement Home. Evelyn, her niece, oftenvisited her andhad her come to her home, especially to spend time withher family duringthe holidays.
