Obituary Hemmerling, Fred, h/o Ida (d. 1981; b. 1892; TS; OC; obit) “Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, Feb 26, 1981 at 11a.m. at the UCC, for Friedrich Hemmerling, who passed away on Feb 22,1981. Rev Everett Schoessler will officiate. Friedrich Hemmerling wasborn Dec 26, 1892 in Saratov, Bessarabia, Russia, the son of Gottlieband Louisa (Jeske) Hemmerling. He was baptized as an infant in Russia.The family came to the United States on June 10, 1902 and homesteadednorth of Odessa. On Nov 17, 1907, Fred was confirmed into theChristian Faith by Rev J. J. Hoffman in the Pilgrim CongregationalChurch. On Nov 17, 1915 Mr. Hemmerling was married to Ida Haase inSpokane by the Rev Carl A. Wentsch. The couple homesteaded north ofOdessa until about 1927, when they moved to California. About a yearlater, they returned to this area and farmed east of Odessa until1947. After traveling in California and Arizona they moved to Spokaneand other cities in Washington until settling on a farm near Ephrata.The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1965. MrsHemmerling passed away at Ephrata on Aug 13, 1973. The followingyear, Mr. Hemmerling moved to Odessa. He was a member of the PilgrimCongregational Church, then the United Congregational Church ofOdessa. For the past three months his health began to fail and heentered the Odessa hospital Feb 10th. He was transferred to theDavenport hospital two days later. On Feb 20th he returned to theOdessa Memorial Hospital where he passed away on Feb 22, 1981 at theage of 88 years, 1 month, and 27 days. Those who remain to mourn hispassing are three sons: Howard of Tacoma; Dewain, of Odessa; and Donof Tukwila, WA; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs.Lena Raugust of Spokane, and many friends. He was preceded in death byhis parents, 5 brothers and 3 sisters. Interment will be in the OdessaCemetery with Strate Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.” (OdessaRecord: 2-26-1981)
