Obituary Hemmerling, Gottlieb, h/o M. (d. 1960; b. 1883; TS; OC) “Funeral services for Gottlieb Hemmerling, 77, were held from theUnited Congregational church on Tuesday afternoon. The Rev Harry G.Pfeiff officiated. Burial was in the Odessa Cemetery, under directionof the Strate Funeral Home. Nephews served as pall bearers, includingArthur and Robert Deife, Emil and LeRoy Ramm, Dewayne Hemmerling,Harvey and Calvin Raugust, and Robert Hemmerling. William Wenz andMrs. Maurice Weishaar formed a duet and sang songs in German andEnglish, with Mrs. H. G. Pfeiff as organist. Born in Russia Jan 24,1883, he came to the Odessa area as a young man with his parents, in1902. They, Gottlieb Hemmerling, Sr., and wife, Louisa Jeske, withtheir family, had a major part in developing the farming area. Thefamily located north of here. In 1908 Gottlieb Hemmerling was marriedto Miss Martha Foechner at Odessa, and they continued the farm homeuntil about 25 years ago, when they retired to a home in town. Deathcame in the University hospital at Seattle, where he had been takenfor medical care. Survivors include his wife, Martha, at the home;one daughter, Mrs. Edna Leitz, Odessa; three brothers, Christ andEmmanuel, of Odessa, Fred of Ellensburg; three sisters, Mrs. LydiaFrieske and Mrs. Lena Raugust, both of Spokane and Mrs. Louisa Deife,Odessa.” (Odessa Record: June 1960; Beck data card collection)
