Notizen zu dieser Person

Generation 1

1. Herman J. Krull-1[1, 2, 2] was born on 12 Mar 1871 in Morton Grove,Illinois[1, 3, 4, 5]. He died on 23 Apr 1942 in Lake Forest, Lake County, Illinois[1].

Notes for Herman J. Krull: General Notes:

Herman, Clothilde & Walter moved back to Dillenburg, Germany around 1905-1906. When WWI was coming, Clothilde got scared that Walter would get drafted. They came back late in 1913 (possibly 1910, as they are onthe manifest for the Graf Waldersee from Hamburg to NY). Walter got drafted in the U.S. army, but did not fight in Europe.

In the 1900 Census, Herman, Clothilde and Walter lived at 147 Sheffield Ave, unit 135. There appear to be 3 units total (a 3-flat?), units 133, 134, and 135. John Krull and family lived in unit 133. The birth years in the census are appropriate for this to be Herman's brother, his wife and son. According to a conversation with Richard Krull's wifeLiving Krull, April 3, 2005, Richard remembered going to his grandparent's house on Sheffield. There would be sausages hanging in the window, and chickens in the back yard.

Herman was a Saloonkeeper, “…but we served food”. He owned a tavern. At the time of his death, though, he was working as a machinist for Chicago Surface Lines, where his son Walter was also employed.

Clotilde Charlotte Hafer daughter of Johann Hafer and Katharine Koenig[2, 6, 7, 8] was born on 19 Sep 1873 in Dillenburg, Hesse, Germany[7,9, 10, 11, 12]. She died on 29 Oct 1936 in Cook, Illinois, United States[13].

Notes for Clotilde Charlotte Hafer: General Notes:

Clothilde was very clear in communicating that she was Hessian, not German. She spoke German and French, and referred to her husband as "plow (sp?) Deutche" - a "plow-German" or common German.

Herman J. Krull and Clotilde Charlotte Hafer were married on 23 May 1894 in Cook County, Illinois[7, 14]. They had the following children:

2. i. Walter Carl Krull[15, 16] was born on 27 Jun 1895 in Chicago,Illinois[17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23]. He
married Ethel Edith Evans after 09 Jan 1920[24, 25]. He died in Jul1969 in River Forest,
Cook, Illinois[16, 18].

He died in Jul 1969 in River Forest, Cook, Illinois[16, 18].

Notes for Walter Carl Krull: General Notes:

Herman, Clothilde and Walter moved back to Dillenburg, Germany around1905-1906. When WWI was coming, Clothilde was afraid that Walter wouldget drafted. Came back late in 1913. Walter got drafted in U.S. Army, did not fight in Europe. He was in line to get onto the Ticonderoga, butwas pulled out of line as he could type and a typist was needed immediately. His friends on the Ticonderoga perished while he was safe,an event that changed his view of everything. A good God could not have permitted this, in his mind, and he became an atheist. Told to Nan KrullbyRichard Walter Krull.[KRULL-1895.FTW]

Ethel Edith Evans daughter of Richard Price Evans and Hannah Edith Bowen[15] was born in 1898 in Per Laura Krull Brierre, grandaughter of Ethel Evans[26, 27]. She died in 1966.

Later in life, was a "professional student". Then she would come homeand discuss the issues/topics she was studying with son Richard. He eventually became a teacher, was interested in a broad of topics, and always enjoyed a good, lively discussion.

She was "a small woman who liked to drive large cars very fast" (popular family description of her).

Daughter-in-law Ruth Krull says she was "quite a woman".

When she plugged it in, all the lightsin the building went out. People began to rush into the hall shouting"Luccio! Luccio!" ("Lights! Lights") - and Richard did likewise. Noonein that hotel ever figured out who put the lights out!
