Herman, Clothilde and Walter moved back to Dillenburg, Germany around1905-1906. When WWI was coming, Clothilde was afraid that Walter wouldget drafted. Came back late in 1913. Walter got drafted in U.S. Army,did not fight in Europe. He was in line to get onto the Ticonderoga,butwas pulled out of line as he could type and a typist was needed immediately. His friends on the Ticonderoga perished while he was safe,an event that changed his view of everything. A good God could not have permitted this, in his mind, and he became an atheist. Lt. Cmdr. Madison was severely wounded early in the engagement but hadhimself placed on a chair on the bridge and continued to direct the fire and manoeuver the ship until the order to abandon ship was issued.He then fell unconsciuos from the loss of blood and was lowered intothelifeboat and was saved with 31 others out of a crew of 236 men.

Ethel Edith Evans daughter of Richard Price Evans and Hannah Edith Bowen[15] was born in 1898 in Per Laura Krull Brierre, grandaughter of Ethel Evans[26, 27]. She died in 1966.

Raised by her father and Bowen grandparents, due to the early death ofher mother.
Later in life, was a "professional student". Then she would come homeand discuss the issues/topics she was studying with son Richard. He eventually became a teacher, was interested in a broad of topics, and always enjoyed a good, lively discussion.
She was "a small woman who liked to drive large cars very fast" (popular family description of her).
Daughter-in-law Ruth Krull says she was "quite a woman".
