William Fletcher was born Oct. 13, 1729 in Accomack Co. Va. He was Bornafter his father's death. This William Fletcher lived to be 101 years old. His older brother Matthew (half-brother) died in 1751. He had Possiblymarried a Watson, for he leaves the faimly farm (150 acres) plus another100 acres to his brothers-in-law, Bezaleel and Daniel Watson. One canonly speculate about why he did not leave at least the family farm to hisyounger brother William, who by then would have been 21 years of age. Allwe know is that William appears in South C,arolina and marries inCharleston, the same year that his older brother dies and leaves the landto his in-laws. Dissapointment? Debt? It is impossible to say what tookplace here. William Fletcher had a plat surveyed for 250 acres on 16 June 1756, forwhich he recieved a grant on 8 Nov. 1757. S. C. records indicated that helived in early Craven County near Jefferies Creek of the Lower Pee DeeRiver. William Fletcher and his four oldest sons served in the Revolutionary Warin Mayhew's Calvary of the South Carolina Militia. He served for twelvemonths and was paid for this service by the State of South Carolina inMay 1785. In 1785 William Fletcher moved his family to the northern portion ofGeorgia about Effingham and Bulloch Counties. Bulloch County Deed recordsshow a deed from Mr. Fletcher and his wife Elizabeth, to Joshua HodgesSep. 20, 1805 for 120 acres granted to him and lying on the south side of the OgeecheeRiver.. (Book "A", p. 99) Also found in the same book is a deed of giftto his sons, Thomas and Wiley Fletcher, "when they become of age" anddated Oct. 3, 1818 conveying the 200 acres of land where he lived and hishousehold goods. In 1825 he moved with his numerous family to Telfair County in thesouthern part of Georgia where he drew land, as a Revolutionary Soldier,in the lottery of 1827 of the Cherokee lands which had just been acquiredby War and Treaty. He is listed in the 1830 census, the first for thatCounty. William Fletcher died May 2, 1831 and was buried at the Old ConcordBaptist Church near Jacksonville, Ga.. His grave has been marked by theD. Notes for John Fletcher, R S: John Fletcher was born in Marion District S. C., both he and his fatherserved in the Revolutionary War. John enlisted 1780 under Capt. JamesGriggs, and served under Lt. Col. Thomas Davis, Col. Hugh Giles, andGeneral Francis Marion until 1782. In later years he drew a RevolutionaryWar Pension. In 1784 John moved with his parents to Effingham Co. Ga.where they were both granted land. John recieved 50 acres on July 4, 1785and another 100 acres on Dec. 4, 1786. He also bought other tracts ofland. In 1796 they were cut into Bulloch Co. Ga. C; born 1766 in SocietyHill, on Lynch Creek. S.C.; died January 12, 1830. Notes for William McCall: William McCall enlisted at the age of 16 in the American Army in theRevolutionary War, serving under Gen. Francis Marion. He moved with Hisparents to Effingham Co. Ga. in 1785, but was cut into Screven Co. init's formation in 1793. He was a large landowner, farms and timberland. He died at his home onhis plantation in Screven Co. Ga. and is buried there in a familycemetery. His grave was marked by the Brier Creek Chapter, D. A. R. Hewas Justice of the Peace 36th District Screven Co. Ga. being firstcommissioned aug 20, 1804 and again on May 12 1808. Mr. McCall was baptized into the membership of the Welch Neck BaptistChurch in South Carolina in his youth, and was ordained into the ministryin 1789, after moving to Georgia. He served several years as Moderator ofthe Hephzibah Baptist Association and pastored several churches in hissection for many years before his death. vi.
