1. Hustus Studstill, an early citizen of Bulloch County, and ancestor ofmany of the names in Wiregrass Georgia, was born in South Carolina about1760, and was said to have been a soldier in the Revolution. He grew upand married in Beaufort District, S.C., and lived there until about 1793,when he moved his family to Screven County, Georgia. His wife's name wasElizabeth Hardeman. Mr. Studstill granted 100 acres of land in Screven County in 1793, and400 acres in 1796. He was cut into Bulloch out of Screven and livedthere until his death. He was named by the legislature as one of thecommissioners to locate the county-seat of Bulloch County in1804; thesecommissioners selected the site now known as Statesboro. He was acommissioned Ensign in Screven County militia, Nov 21, 1794, and as aLieutenant in Bulloch militia, Nov 25, 1796. He left a will dated September 3, 1804, and which was probated June 1,1805, in Bulloch County. The widow and Drury Jones, Sr., applied foradministration Feb 13, 1805. However, the will was produced and probatedin June 1805, and it named Drury Jones, Joseph Tanner, Josiah Sirman, andtestator's son, William as Executors. The estate was appraised June 17,1805, by Nathan Sweat, James Williams, and Stephen Mills and totaled$7,445.74, exclusive of the land and improvements. Listed were nineslaves, $3,260.00, six horses, $315.00, and 497 head of cattle,$3,100.00, and other personalty.
