1. William Studstill was born in Beaufort District, South Carolina,1780, oldest son of Hustus Studstill. He came with his parents toBulloch County in his youth, and was married there May 14, 1805, toSusannah Fletcher, daughter of John Fletcher. She was born April 16,1788, in Effingham (now Bulloch) County. Mr. Studstill moved from Bulloch to Telfair County about the same timehis wife's parents moved there, and settled near Jacksonville, on or nearthe Ocmulgee. He had a large plantation, also owned large herds ofcattle. He also was a part-time captain on a river steam boat, the riverin those days affording the main means of traffic. Mr. Studstill servedas Justice of Telfair of inferior court, 1837-1841. He died in TelfairCounty in 1844, and his son William qualified as administrator on theestate, October 24, 1844. He was a pioneer settler, thier home in Telfair County was locatedabout 5 miles southwest of Milan in the 9th land district.
