When Kirk's men broke through the Homeguard's line, one of them wassent to warn the women the enemy was coming. The first house he arrivedat was that of the Bennett's. Mrs. Bennett helped hide some of theirthings and told the family where to hide the rest, while she got on herhorse and rode to warn the others. While Mrs. Bennett was gone warning neighbors and family that theraiders were coming, is probably when they set fire to her house.
