From age 16-19 Josiah served as an apprentice cloth-dresser. He then
went into partnership with WM> Searight. When the building of woolen
factories madetheir business unprofitable, he was then found building
boats on the Youghiogheny River. He was living in Franklin Township,
Fayette County, PA.
In 1823 hemarried Nancy Lynch, daughter of Robert Lynch and Mercilla
MARTIN Lynch.Nancywas born on the farm they now own.
Josiah had a warrant in 1828 in Perry Township that was surveyed and
patented on 3 June 1829.
In 1838 he moves to Jefferson Township.
In 1845 he rented the farm of Robert Lynch, his father-in-law.
He bought the farm in 1848. The farm consisted of 160 acres.
In 1840 Josiah served as School Director in Perry Township, Fayette
County, PA>
In 1865 he was elected Justice of Peace for Perry Township Fayette
County Pennsylvannia.
In 1872 he became guardian to his grandchildren (children of Johnand
Mary JaneKing McIntire) at the death of their father.
Josiah died 13July 1891 and is buried in Mt. Washington Cemetery next
to his wife Nancy LYNCH King.
A wonderful description is given of him in a family history by Nettie
McDonald. "Grandpap King is what everyboby called him, was hale and
hearty all his life and even in his ninetieth year was proud of his
ability to mount "Tom" his horse unassisted in the field or on the road
without an upon block. He was a pillar of the Methodist church and never
missed a service, andalways prayed with his eyes open."
