According to Ellis Island records, Ferdinand arrived from Barmen on 8 Aug 1905 aboard the Vaderland from Antwerp at the age of 36 and was unmarried. His stated reason for entering the US was to visit friend Emil Hagen (spelling?) at Barnstead, NH. There must have been a misunderstanding with the language as he appears to have been married at least in 1896.
In 4 Jan 1913, he returned to the US aboard the Finland. It states his home was Suncook, NH, that he was married and his wife remained in Germany. He was in the company of Adolf Blomback, a 54 year old weaver from Barmen. My father worked for a Blombach who had a mill in Marlborough, NH.
According to the 1910 US Census for Epsom, Ferdinand was a weaver, working in his brother's ribbon factory. He was single and living as a boarder of Albert Enke (and wife) and 2 other boarders. All were weavers at the factory. It also indicates that he emigrated to the US in 1905 and still spoke German.
The 1920 US Census indicates he had become a US citizen in 1915 and was a weaver at the silk mill.
The Petition for Naturalization dated 24 Dec 1914 indicates that Ferdinand came the the US on 28 Jul 1905; arriving at New York aboard the Vaderland from Antwerp.
A search on the Internet indicates that the Blombach name goes back to Lüttringhausen, the town where my father was born.
