Notes for this person

TOD: Monica (Augustin) Rubey Source unknown 1935 On Saturday, November 9, 1935, at 8:30 p.m., the George Rubey Sr. family was saddened by the death of their highly revered mother who had been ill for only a short period of time. Her willingness to lend a helping hand to others in need, her kind and loving tenderness will always be cherished by her family and her many friends. Mrs. Monica Rubey (nee Monica Augustin) was born May 4, 1856, in the Township of Cato in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, which is ten miles west of Lake Michigan. In 1869 her parents Mr. and Mrs. Martin Augustin, and family moved to Brown County, taking a homestead southeast of Springfield. In 1872 she was united in marriage to George Rubey at New Ulm (it being the nearest town at that time), Rev. A. Berghold officiated at the ceremony. It was a happy occasion for them to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary fifty years later with a golden wedding mass by Rev. F. S. Rant at St. Raphael's Church. In the George Rubey Sr. family, there were thirteen children; she was preceded in death by her husband and six of her children, Mary, Margaret, and Albert, who died in infancy; her husband in 1931, followed by George, Frank, and Joseph. The surviving children are: John Frances, Mary (Mrs. Joseph Lang), Ludwig, Ida, Catherine of Springfield, and Sophie (Mrs. John Fecker) of Sleepy Eye; one brother, J. B. Augustin of Springfield; 19 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Mrs. Rubey's health had been failing for the past several months but she was always very able and active until the last two weeks when it failed rapidly. When she passed away, her surviving children and cousin, Miss Catherine Augustin, were at her bedside. There was a large attendance at her funeral Tuesday,, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Raphael's Church. The Solemn Requiem High Mass was read by Rev. I. Schumacher, assisted by Rev. L. Bertrand, and Rev. William Michael's of Sleepy Eye. At the close of the mass, Alice Rubey, a grandchild, sang "Ye Souls of the Faithful". Mrs. Rubey was a faithful member of St. Anne's Altar Society, which organization attended in a body. The pallbearers were Walter Fecker, Norbert Lang, Raymond and Sylvester Rubey, who are grandchildren and John and Sylvester Augustin, nephews. Mrs. Rubey will be greatly missed in her home and she left a vacancy that can never be filled. Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. John Augustin, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Baier, Comfrey,; Mr. and Mrs. Wendelin Bruckbauer, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Rubey, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rubey, Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Schroepfer, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lendt, Mrs. Fred Heideman and son Keith, Sleepy Eye; Mrs. Mary English, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Teynor, Mrs. Alfred Puhlman, Mrs. Herbert Grussendorf and Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Hohm, New Ulm; Mr. and Mrs. Wm Wurscher and Mr. and Mrs. John Wurscher, Lucan; Mrs. Louis Riederer and sons, Mankato; Bernice Fecker, St. Paul; Mrs. Matt Hanten, Watertown, SD; Mrs. Jake Daskoske, Nicollet.
