They appear on the federal census for Dodge Co. WI on June 12, 1860 in Rubicon as Joseph Crous, age 44, day laborer, born in Germany, value of personal property $75; Catherine, wife, age 40, born in Germany; Francis 12, born in Germany; Annah, ag

born in Austria; Antone, age 9/12, born in Wisconsin. It is possible that Charles is a brother or half-brother of Katherine Fischer Kraus.
Land records for Outagamie Co.WI show that Josef bought land in Greenville Township January 30, 1863. Property Description is S 1/2 of the NE 1/4 of Section 10, Township 21 North, Range 16 East, Greenville Township (All except 10 acres in NE corn

On the federal census of June 12, 1880 for Greenville, Outagamie County, Wisconsin, (enumeration district 125, p. 13) right under the family of his daughter and his son-in law, Franziska and Anton Becker, he is shown as "Julius Krouse" , age 59,

His death certificate shows him as a retired farmer residing in Appleton and that his parents' names were Joseph and Mary (no maiden name given for Mary). His obituary says that he settled on a farm in Greenville in 1862 and moved to Appleton in
1890 to live with his daughter, Mary (Mrs. Joseph) Mayer. Appleton city directories for 1899-1900 and 1906 list him at 649 Story Street. He died at 2 a.m. at the Mayer's home at 649 Story Street in Appleton. His funeral was held at St. Jo
