aboard ship Ahlers from Bremerhaven
p. 26
P. 352/24
She appears on the passenger list of the Ahlers in 1857 with her parents and her sisters, Franziska and Anna. She is shown as age 2. She also appears on the federal census of 1860 in Rubicon Township, Dodge County, Wisconsin as age 5 with her p
arents, older sisters, and younger sister Mary and on the federal census in 1870 in Greenville Township, Outagamie County, Wisconsin, with her parents and younger sisters as age 15, born in Austria. She is shown on the federal census of 1880 in
Greenville Township with her husband and 3 children.
She and her husband, Peter, appear to have helped finance the property that her sister, Anna, and brother-in-law, William Nussbaum, bought in New London in 1873, but sold their interest back to the Nussbaums in 1876. Since Peter's last name is S
chweitzer, it is possible that he was a blood relative of William Nussbaum, whose mother's maiden name was Schweitzer. Peter lived in New London at the time of his marriage and may have met Theresia through William and Anna.
By 1887, Peter and Theresia had moved to Appleton and started running a saloon and hotel at 985 College Avenue. The listing for the place appears in the Appleton city directories from 1887 through 1900. In 1901, the city directory lists Theresa
as a widow at 1024 6th.* In 1904, she is listed at 547 State.* Mary, Louis, and Kate are listed at the same residence. In 1906, she is listed at 927 College Avenue. Katie, Louise and Mary are at the same residence. In 1908, she is listed at
622 Bennett with Mae, Kate, and Louis. In 1910, she is listed at 622 Bennett with Mae and Katherine.
Her cause of death was apoplexy per death certificate. Her obituary says that she was found dead in her bed (she had not been ill) with heart failure as the cause.
*The streets were re-numbered in 1925. These addresses are currently 620 6th and 209 S. State.
