Hildegard war mit der heiligen Lioba befreundet und förderte neben vielen Kirchen besonders das Kloster Reichenau und die Abtei Kempten, als deren Stifterin sie in der Legende genannt wird. Sie schenkte der Abtei 774 die Leiber der Heiligen Gordianus und Epimachus. Beigesetzt wurde Hildegard in der Kirche St. Arnulf in Metz. Ihr Gedenktag wird am 30. April begangen.
