Eliza Ellis was born at Ripey, Brown county, Ohio on Feb. 2, 1837andpassed awayin Little Sioux, Iowa, on July 2, 1933 at the age of 96years and 5 months.
Shewas the last of thirteen children born to John and Hannah Ellis. At the age ofeighteen, she with her mother, three of the brothersandher two younger sisters came to Harrison county to join an olderbrother, Samuel Ellis, who had previouslylocated in this county.
Pioneer hardships wer many, but were met with the fortitude of thatindomitable spirit which blazed the trail of the early days to theaccomplishments of our forefathers. Within two years after the familysettled, shemet and married William Booth. To this union fivechildren were born, and still survive; Mary C. Everett of Sioux City;T. W. Boothof Glenwood; Mrs. ElizabethGibson and C. C. Booth ofLittle Sioux and A. A. Booth of Orson, Iowa.
Left awidowwhen the eldest child was eight years and the babyeightmonths old, she battledalone to support her family. Neighborsand relatives were kind and their thoughtful efforts smoothed the way.She never faltered in those trying days and byperseverance, courageand her deep mother-love, the family was kept together.
In 1873, she married James Cooper, who preceded her in death March 12,1896. Twoof thethree children of this union survive; Eda Cooper ofLincoln, Nebr.; J. C.Cooper of Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. LouellsReeves of Onawa, having passed away in1928.
Mrs. Cooper was a faithful member from childhood of the MethodistEpiscopal church. She belonged to the Rebekah Lodge, possibly havingthe distinction of being the oldest member of that order in Iowa.
The esteem and love that wasfelt forher in the community wasmanifest by the many people that gathered at her annualafternoons, given beher relatives on her birthdays.
She leaves to mourn her passing seven children, nineteengrandchildren, thirty-three great grandchildren and fourgreat-great-grandchildrenand many other relatives and friends.
Funeralservices were held at the home Wednesdday afternoon, July 5,Rev. CarlBrown in charge and the Rebekahs conducted the services atthe grave.
And thuswe pay respect to our lat oldest citizen, one of the mostcheerful mothers we have known, who took much joy in the presence ofherfamily and friends.
Among people from out of town who attended the funeral service of Mrs.Cooper were: J.
