HANNAH ELLIS who died May 25, 1891, 5PM at the residence of her son,Samuel, in this township, was born near Maysville, Mason county,Kentucky, November 3, 1804,aged 86 years, 6mos and 22 days. Herparents removed from Kentucky to Ohio in herchildhood and settled onEagle Creek near Ripley, in Brown county, where she grewto womanhood,amidst the trials and hardships of the first settlement of thatcountry. She was united in marriage Dec. 11, 1823, in her nineteenthyear to John Ellis, who was four years her senior. From this union werborn thirteen children,tensons and three daughters, all of whom grewto manhood and womanhood. Six sonsandtwo daughters survive her andfour sons andone daughter have died.
Mrs. Ellisand her husband united with the Methodist church abouttheyear 1837 or `38 and from that time lived a zealous Christian untilher death.
Mrs. Ellis was left awidow June 9, 1849, by the death of herhusbandfrom Asiatic cholera. Her youngest child being about threeyears of age and her eldest about twenty four years.
Mrs. Ellis moved from Ohio to Harrison county, Iowa, in the springof1855, and has since resided here among her children. She bore herlast illness of aboutone month duration with great patience andfortitude, and spoke of her approaching dissolution with calmness andChristian resignation.
The funeral services occurrred Wednesday at the M. E. church, Rev.Pruitt speaking from `Behold they mother`.Songs sung were `There`s aLight in the Valley`, `Home at Last`, `Beautiful Valley of Eden` and`Thy Will be Done`. After which the long procession took the line ofmarch to Soldier Valley Cemetery where the burial service of thechurchconcluded the program.
