JOHN H. ELLIS ANSWERS THE FINAL ROLL CALL
John H. Ellis was born in Brown County, Ohio, March 9, 1835, passedaway at his home in Little Sioux, Iowa, Tuesday,Febr. 25, 1919, aged83 years, 11 mos., and 16 days.
He was the son of John and Hannah Martin Ellis and was one of a familyof thirteen children, all of whom,except three, have preceeded him,those surviving are Mrs. Eliza Cooper, Mrs. Luella Murray and A.M.Ellis. The family came to this section of Iowa in 1855 and areofthepioneer stock so rapidly leaving us behind in their transitions tothat other life.
Good citizens, all of them, they did their part, their bit, as itwere. They served their country; John enlisted in the army durin thecivil war inAugust 1832 and served three years.
About 1869 he was united in marriage to Ellen Hall, who surviveshim,to this union came four children, one of whom, Richard has gone onbefore, the ones remaining are Sarah in New Mexico, Mrs. Della Haynes,Little Soo and Ollie Ellis of Alta, Iowa.
The funeral services were conductedfrom the home, Wednesdayafternoon, by Elder D. A. Hutchings, and the boys inkahki acted aspall bearers in the stead of the boys in blue, whose numbers havegrown few. Gently he was laid to rest in the Little Sioux Cemetery.
