Mary Josephine Ellis, daughter of Samuel and Sarah E. Bailie Ellis,was bornin Raglan Township, Harrison County, Iowa on February 18,1856. She was marriedtoGranville Huff on January 24, 1875. To thisunion, three children were born; Clarke W. of Bigelow, MN; Clyde L. ofLogan and Mrs. Ruth White of Blencoe.
Shedeparted this life on April 20, 1921 at a sanitarium inExcelsiorSprings, MO, aged65 years, 2 months and 2 days. She leavesto mourn her departure, besides herhusband and three children, asister, Carrie Ellis, three brothers, C. Bailie, Charles F. andDickson and nine grandchildren. She was a member of the M. E. Churchfor26 years a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and W. C. T. U.
The funeral was very largely attended Sunday afternoon at 2 PM attheM. E. Church in LittleSioux and burial in the Little SiouxCemetery.Rev. Doyle conducted the services.The O. E. S. attended in abody and had a short ceremony at the last restingplace. Friends fromBlencoe, Logan, Woodbine, Modale, Mondamin, Onawa and Pisgahattendedthe services. The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful.

Mary Josephine Ellis was born in Raglan Township, Harrison CountyFebruary 18, 1856. She was the daughter of Samuel and SarahE. BailieEllis. She was married January 24, 1875 to Granville Huff, and to thisunion three children were born and all survive their mother. They areClarke W. ofBigelow,MN; Clyde L. of Logan and Mrs. Ruth White ofBlencoe. She died at Excelsior Springs, MO after several months ofsevere suffering, at the age of 65 years, 2 months and 2 days.
Such is the brief history of a woman who did well herpart in the lifeof the community in which she had lived all of her life except oneyear which was spent in Monona County. She was identified with thegood works of the neighborhood in which she lived, a kind and helpfulneighbor, a loving wifeand motherand a sympathetic friend in time oftrouble.
In the late summer orearly falllast year, she became afflicted withadisease which caused her much suffering andit was of such an obscurenature that the best of medical skill seemed powerlessto give anyrelief, though she was given the best care that sciencecould offer.As a last resort she was taken to Excelsior Springs where it washopedthat reliefmight be had. She did not improve under thetreatment, but grew constantly feebler, and before it was definitelydecided that she could not recover,she had becomeso weak that shecould not be brought home, but remained there until the end came. Herhusband and herchildren were with her during the last weeks.
Besides the husband and children, she is survived by 3 brothers; C.Bailie Ellis of Des Moines; Charles Ellis of Sioux City; and DicksonEllis and one sister,Carrie Ellis of Little Sioux.
She had been a member of the Methodist Churchat Little Siouxfor 26years, always an earnest, helpful Christian woman. She wasalso amember ofthe Order of the Eastern Star and the W. C. T. U. atLittle Sioux.
The funeral was held at the Methodist Church in Little Sioux Sundayafternoon, April 23, conducted by Rev. W. H. Doyle and she was laid torest in LittleSioux Cemetery.
