Article in the Mason`s paper by Jesse C. Boyles

Two weeks age today, I had the pleasure of meeting Brother Hiram Huff, who on January 5th, 1855, was madeaMason in Amity Lodge No. 40ofMillerburg, Ky. He left Kentucky May 3, 1855 andwent to CouncilBluffs, Iowa and attended Bluff City Lodge No. 71. In 1858, he helpedto organize and was the first Master of Magnolia Lodge No. 126 and wasa memberof this lodge from 1858 to 1878. Then in the fall of 1878, heorganized FrontierLodge No. 382, was its Master for seven years and amember of it for nine years. Then he went to Missouri Valley, Iowa, andbecame a member of Valley Lodge No.232in 1887 and held hismembership there until 1908, when he moved to Baker, Oregonand becamea member of Baker Lodge No. 44 and is still a member in good standing.
Brother Huff has been a Mason for sixty-four years, is in goodhealthandenjoys his three meals a day. He is still very muchinterested inMasonic doings and can talk very intelligently on andMasonic subject.
Sincerely,
Jesse C.Boyles

HIRAM M. HUFF FUNERAL
The remains of Hiram M. Huff, who passedaway,Nov. 11th at BakerOregon, aged 91 years, 9 months and 9 days, arrived herelast Fridaya.m.accompanied by `Cap` Huff and Mrs. Weston. The services were heldat theM.E. Church at two o`clock in the afternoon, and were in chargeofthe Masonic bodies. Following prayer by Brother Shugg, GeorgeMaltsieMaster of the Lodgeat Missouri Valley, where Mr. Huff last wasa member delivered the service bothat the church and the grave inSoldier Valley Cemetery, very near to the spot where yearsago, Mr.Huff dug the grave for the first burial in that cemetery, and nowhimselflies sleeping with many dear friends who have gone on beforehim. Of the fraternity who were present from away we noted in theMissouri Valley numbers Geo. Maltsi, L. S. Haskins, H. H. Thurber, M.Burbank, W. N. Burbank, Geo. L. Knight, W. Allen Jones, A. Edgecomb,LeRoy Doty, Jno. Nelson, Floyd Hardy, Ed. Bradley, R. C.Hills C. S.Bond, H. T. Foss, Wm.Bowie, L. L. Stafford; E. A. Drake of Modale;Almor and Fred Stern ofLogan. Among others present were G. Huff fromPisgah, Clark and ClydeHuff and wives, Mrs. A. Stern from Logan and W.H. Reeves of Onawa.
Thus was consigned back to Mother Earth one of God`s noblemen. Oneweoftenlooked upon as a striking example of the good men of biblicaldays before the Christ, following as close as mortal could to the lawof the book. He served well, and in going leaves behind fond memoryfor his numerous friends. He was not alonea fraternity brother, hewasa brother to all. Affiliating in Masonic relations back in 1855inKentucky, he transplanted the seed of brotherly love and affectioninthe firstlodge in the county, a charter member and first Master ofMagnolia in 1857, alsoa charter member and first Master of Frontier882 at Little Sioux later affiliating with the Missouri Valley lodge. Now Brother wer leave you, and down through the years we shallremember you as presenting to our first vision thegreater lightswhich we trustwill ever be our rule and guide.
