Mrs. Lucinda Huff, wife of HIram M. Huff, a long time resident of thiscounty, died at her home in Baker City, Oregon, Friday, December 27,1919 aged 87 years.
Lucinda McGahan was born in Coles County, Illinois, December 1,1830,moved to Wapelo County, Iowa in 1840, later to PottawattamieCounty and to Harrison County in the early fifties. She was married toHiram M. Huff in Raglan township, this county, January 24th, 1856. Sixchildren were born to them: Dr. John W., Baker, Oregon; Lenora,deceased; Mrs. Clara Weston, Chicago; Hattie B., deceased; B. Frank,Payette, Idaho; T. Carson, Baker, Oregon.
Mr. and Mrs. Huff located on the old homestead in Little Siouxtownship in December 1858, where they lived until 1887, when theymoved to Missouri Valley. They moved to Baker, Oregon in 1908, whereshe passed away December 27, 1918.
The Huffs were among the early settlers ofthis county. They came herewhen the country was new, and established a home, andin addition torearing their family, they made for themselves many friends andestablished the reputation of being honest, industrious and worthcitizens. Mr. Huff had an important part in the founding ofsubstantial and worthwhile principlesof living in the community wherehe lived. Always honest in his dealing and outspoken in his opinion,he left his impression on society and his wife was an ableandfaithful helper.
She was brought to the old home and laid to rest in theSoldier ValleyCemetery, where others of the family are laid to rest.
