aus Berka bei Sondershausen; dort Ackerbürger, 1605 auch "Altarist" (=Altardiener) und Heimburge (1613, 1618). Lt. Wolfgang Vulpius (1968) besaß er ein problematisches Naturell: "selbstherrlich und gewalttätig". Ein Kanzleiprotokoll von 1607 besagt, dass er "sein eigener Richter sein wollen und einen Schafknecht mit einer Buchsen durch den Kopf geschossen habe". Nachdem er einige Jahre in der "Grube" (Gefängnis) gebüßt hatte, wählte ihn seine nachsichtige Gemeinde zum Heimburgen, weil sie seiner Intelligenz nicht entraten wollte (lt.
