1. Obituary From the Ottumwa Daily Courier dated Monday, December 27, 1915 WELL KNOWN MAN TAKES OWN LIFE FRANK TETER, PROMINENT FLORIST, DRINKS QUANTITY OF POISON AND DIES Frank M. Teter, a well known citizen and prominent florist of thiscity, took his own life Saturday evening about 7:40 o'clock bydrinking a quantity of poison. The cause of the rash act is said to be despondency. For some monthspast the decedent has acted strangely. Following the death of hismother in July his actions first attracted attention. Mr. Teter without any appartent cause and giving no explanation lefthome about September 1 and although the family received word from himtwice during his absence they did not learn his address while away. Saturday the family were away from the premises most ot the time,guests of friends for Christmas and, upon thier arrival home, Gordon,the youngest son, entered the green house which is located at the rearof the residence, to fire the furnace. Just as he turned on the lighthe beheld his father, who seemed to reel and hastening to the parent,the son was able to catch him as he fell. Aid was summoned andstimulants applied as soon as the nature of the father's illness wasdiscovered. The physician worked with the patient in an effort toovercome the effects of the drug, but within five minutes after hisarrival life was extinct. Frank M. Teter was born in Albia, March 7, 1859. He was the son ofRev. I.P. and Mrs. Rebecca Teter and had resided here for thirty-fiveyears. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Teter, one daughter, Mrs. G.F.Tullis of Ottumwa, and four sons, Gordon of Ottumwa, Paul of Chicago,and Ross and Elbert of Muskogee, Okla. He was a member of the Ottumwalodge No. 9 I.O.O.F. The funeral service will be held Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock from theresidence and will be conducted by Rev. C.A. Montanus. Internment willbe made in the Ottumwa cemetery. The pallbearers are, Stephen Barnes,George Klingmeier, Hamilton Wilson, C.L. Firkins, A.L. Wheeler and Dr.A.W. Slaught. [Transcriber's Note: Wapello County marriage records show that FrankM.C. Teter married Mary B. Dunlap on January 21, 1880 and Anna PearlTeter married Gerald Freeman Tullis on October 3, 1900.]
