He married Elizabeth Hoffman in Germany in 1855. Immigrating from Bremen to Baltimore on S.S. Strassburg he arrived May 24, 1884 with wife and daughters Wilhelmina and Helena. They had 8 known children. Two died as infants. The eldest, Henrietta,did not immigrate. She may have married.
Carl (Karl) worked for brother-in-law Frederich Hoffman on his farm near Anchor where the family first settled. Died of "lung inflammation." Buried in non-member section of the cemetery.
He received a medal for combat service between Mar. 1, 1848 and October 1, 1849 with 2nd Artillary Regiment in which he was an artillary man. The testimonial record is dated Aug. 15, 1852 and signed by the Mayor and the Commander of 2nd Battallion, Bromberg 14th Militia Regiment.
