Known to the family as Lena, she was the youngest of 8 children of Karl and Elizabeth Hoffman WITT. Born in Posnan, Prussia, (now Poland) she immigrated from Bremen to Baltimore with her parents and sister Wilhelmina on the Strassburg arriving on24 May 1884.
Lena worked for the Delters family and moved with them to IA but returned to Sibley, IL to Bill Winter family to care for her sister's children after Amelia died.
In 1892 she married her widowed brother-in-law and they had 7 more children. They farmed near Garber and Strawn IL until retiring to Sibley in 1922.
