Thomas Stephens/Stevens was born at Plainfield Connecticut on January 12,1703/4. He married June 5, 1728, Elizabeth Wynn (Wynne, Wine) atPlainfield, Connecticut. May 15, 1746 he was admitted an inhabitant ofCanaan, Connecticut, and he was still living there February 21, 1760,when he gave a deed to a parcel of land to his son, Jesse, of Canaan.Later he removed to Stillwater, New York. There was a Thomas Stevens whoresided in Sheffield, Massachusetts, May 8, 1770 and who deeded a seventhpart of a farm in Canaan, Connecticut, formerly belonging to his father,Thomas Stevens. Children are listed from a letter of Uriah Stevens: Noah, Jesse, and Elizabeth The letter: Dear Sir: I would inform you that I am under Needsessety of some assistance fromyou. I received a Line in February last from your Brother Thomas Stevensat Huntington stating that there were three lots of land lying in theTown where he lives Belonging to the heirs of Thomas Stevens ofStillwater Deceased on hearing this Mr. Robert Patrick who marriedElizabeth Stevens Daughter to Jesse Stevens went to Huntington in orderto get some information concerning the business. He found that to be thecase and that the land was in the possession of Abiel Fellows Jun whopurchased the rights of the heirs of Zebulon Stevens. It is nesasary inorder to get hold of it that we prove our heirship I therefore want yhouto get the affidavit of your Father and Mr. Rufus Marsh stating that myFather Noah Stevens and Jesse Stevens and Elizabeth Stevens who marriedto Belknapp werfe actually the Heirs of the said Thomas Stevens DeceasedI suppose it will bed proper to have the affidavit taken before some ofyour Judges of the court I therefore wish you to take the trouble ofdoing it and send it by the Barer of this letter to me and he willsatisfy you for your trouble and expense that you are at. in so doing youwill much Oblige your unknown friend. May 8, 1770, who deeded aseventh of a farm in Canaan, Conn. formerly belonging to his father Thomas Stevens. (This mayhave been the Thomas III, who was son of Thomas Jr., a nephew of 15)Cyprian Stevens). The children of 38) Thos.6 Stevens and Elizabeth are somewhat uncertainbut it appears that three were Noah, Jesse, and Elizabeth Stevens who -m-a Belknap according to a letter from Uriah to Benjamin Stevens in 1814.
