"Eli Jacobs, of the firm of E. Jacobs & Co., is a native of Europe. Hewas born in 1853, and came to this country at the age of 16 years, locating in Ligonier in 1889, where he gengaged in peddingling for one year and then took a position with the dry goods firm of Straus & Meagber, which did business in a frame building situated on the sport whereMr. Jacob`s store is now located. Our subject made rapid progress infamiliarizing himself with the business, and in a few years had an interest in the store and was for several years a member of the firm Jacobs & Goldsmith. Naturally quick and possessing the qualifications ofa hustler, he pushed business and made a success where others would have failed. When Mr. Goldsmith diaposed of his interest in the dry goods business and entered the bank, Mr. Eli Jacobs associated with MeyerJacobs, his brother, and with a like interest in the popular clothingstore, the firm name being Mr. Jacobs & Co., composed of E & M Jacobsand ...low prices" have always been able to supply that demand. Theynot only keep up with the styles, but alsways provided plenty of bargains, and are able to meet the strongest competition. It can be said in this connection that the firm of E. Jacobs & Co. are perhaps the best known in this section. They are exstensive advertisers and always have bargains to offer. Mr. Jacobs is a member of Ligonier Council, F &A. M. the K. of P., and of the I. O. B. B. No 298 of Ligonier. Mr. Jacobs was married, Oct. 29, 1883, to miss Belly Hyman, New York. " (Quelle unbekannt: Artikel aus City Archiv of Ligonier)

January 24, 1927: Death claims prominent man - Eli Jacobs passes awayat his home friday evening on Main Street. Had been prominent in thebusiness affairs of Ligonier for many years.
Eli Jacobs aged 73 years, 8 months and one day, prominent and well known business man of Ligonier passed away at his home in Ligonier Fridayevening at about six o`clock.
Mr. Jacobs, althoug ailing for some time was at his business as usualuntil Saturday, a week ago. He went to his home at supper time and about 8 o`clock Dr. Shobe was called and found him critically ill. His condition remained unchanged until Friday about 6 o`clock in the evening when Mr. Jacobs quite suddenly passed away.
In 1869 a young man came to Ligonier from Clusserath, Germany. In reality he was only a boy of sixteen but so enterprising and manly was hisnature that in 1879 he became a member of the firm of Jacobs and Goldsmith. Four years later the firm name changed to E. Jacobs and Company.
That same year he married Bette Hyman of New York City and brought hisbride to Ligonier. This comprises the early history of our beloved friend Eli Jacobs. A sturdy pioneer for whose coming to our city is indeed greatly fortunate.
Would that the coming generaions as they stream in from foreign shoresmaintian the same high ideals and beautiful concepts which Eli Jacobsour beloved friend cherished and minded throughout his life. It is such virtues that great nations are not only made but maintained.
Ligonier mournes with a sincere grief the passing of Eli Jacobs. A combination of rare virtues made up the character of Mr. Jacobs. A genialand kindly disposition to all, a business man of known integrity, helikewise possessed a real enthusiasm for the betterment of communityaffairs. No movements which had its purpose the improvement conditions and enterprises everfailed to have Eli Jacobs numbered among its energetic supporters. Men of the forward looking and philantropic calibreof Mr. Jacobs are not plentiful and Ligonier does well to pause in sorrow at this time, for our entire community feels a personal sense ofloss.
Surviving our dar friend are his son Irwin Jacobs, his sister Mrs. SolSax (=Johanna) of Chicago and two sisters
(Sara u. Karoline) in Germany.
Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2.30 with Rabbi William Stern officiating and burial in AhAvoth Sholen Cemetery."
