Biographical Sketch (1932):3124 'The earliest existingoriginaltaxrecordsof York County, 1762, are carefully preservedinthePennsylvaniaHistorical Society files in Philadelphia. Thisthinpamphletof smallyellowing sheets lists three Mossers3125 in YorkCountyat thatdate:Michael in Manchester Township; Christian in HellamTownship;andSamuel,the name of whose township is so defaced as to beillegible.AsSamuelpurchased land in Springettsbury Manor (now YorkTownship)in1759,3126it is likely he claimed that as his home.

The earliest map of Springettsbury was made in 1768. Upon itarelocatedthedwellings of Michael and Samuel Moser.3127 Theyoccupiedadjoiningfarms of125 acres each. Michael purchased his farm May5, 1764fromSamuel and hiswife, Catherine.3126 Michael was designated asaresidentof ManchesterTownship in the deed of transfer. In thechurchrecords ofRev. Lyschy, anitinerant missionary, is recorded thebaptism,March 5,1751, of Samuel Jr.son of Samuel Mosser,3128 atBermudian inwhat is nowAdams County. He wasborn October 29, 1750.'

Biographical Sketch (1932):3129 'Michael Mosser's nameappearsinYorkCounty tax records from 1762 to 1783.3130 Dec. 26,1788,MichaelandMaria Eva deeded to their sons Jacob and Daniel thefarmtheypurchasedfrom Samuel in 1754.3131 This is the last recordofMichaelMosser inYork County. He likely died in 1789, as the U. S.censusof 1790lists a'widow Mosser' in this township. Interment issupposed tohavebeen inthe Mosser private cemetery, now on the farm ownedby EliWenikain YorkTownship.'

Biographical Sketch (1932):3132 'Michael was born about 1715.HewasaGerman Lutheran in religious denomination. Nearly alltheMossersappearin records of that church of the German Reformed church.TheYorkCountydescendants still hold to one of the two faiths. MichaelandMariaEvawere members of Christ Lutheran Church in York, where thebirthoftheirson John Jacob was recorded, Feb. 9, 1756. They werelikelythe'MichaelMosser and wife' who were sponsors at the baptismoftheirgrandson,Samuel Jr., whose birth is recorded in the recordsofthatchurch (now inthe York County Historical Society), July 14, 1767.Itwasthe Germancustom for the grandparents to act as sponsors iftheywereliving andcould be present.

Michael moved to Springettsbury Manor, now in York Township,aboutMay5,1764, when he purchased a 125-acre farm from Samuel. Oneofthewitnesseswas his son Abraham Mosser who later went to Ohio.Michaelwasthenliving in Manchester Township.'

In 1762 hewaslivinginManchester Township, York County, but in 1764 he boughtlandfromhisbrother Samuel and moved to Springsettsbury Manor. In 1788thefarmwasdeeded to Jacob and Daniel, the two youngest of theirsevensons.Eva(1717-1807) is buried in the Old Lutheran ChurchCemetery,twomilesnorth of Petersburg, Ohio.'

Biographical Sketch (1976):3120 'Michael was born on July11,1717.OnJanuary 16, 1741 he married Eva Maria, daughter ofthedeceasedMelchiorElsasser, a shoemender from Billigheim. Three oftheirseven sonswerebaptized at Bischweiler.

Samuel arrived in Philadelphia in 1749 aboardtheChristian.3133Michaelarrived the same year aboard the Lydia.3134Bothsettled inYorkTownship, York County, Pennsylvania. Samuel ownedlandinSpringsettsburyManor there in 1759, some of which he sold tohisbrotherMichael in1764. In 1932 Mr. Belmont Farley, also a descendantofMichael,typed amanuscript which has been located in the Youngstown,Ohio,publiclibraryand the Library of Congress, which documentsthesubsequenthistory ofsome of the children of the two brothers.

Michael deeded his Springsettsbury Manor land to his twoyoungestsonsin1788. He apparently died prior to 1790, as the census forthatyearlistsa 'widow' Mosser in the township. In 1801 she went to Ohiowithhersons.Her gravestone in the Old Lutheran Church Cemetery twomilesnorthofPetersburg, Ohio (Mahoning County) reads as follows: 'EvaMosserwasbornSeptember 11, 1717. For fifty years she was the wifeofMichaelMosser towhom she bore eleven children. She died June 27, 1807andwasburied June29, 1807.' The seven sons who have beenidentifiedare:Michael Jr.(1742-1811), married Mary Anna Shaffer, livedinBeaverCounty,Pennsylvania; Peter (1744-1808), marriedMargaretWortman,acquired foursections of land in Springfield Township,MahoningCounty,Ohio in 1800;Samuel (1746-1818), also acquired land inMahoningCounty,Ohio; Abraham(died 1822), kept a tavern near Camp SecuritywherecapturedBritishsoldiers were guarded during the Revolution. Heacquiredahalf-interestin 4,000 acres of land in Tuscarawas County, Ohiousing,itis believed,warrants acquired from soldiers in payment of tavernbillsaspayment;John (died 1826), lived in StrabanTownship,WashingtonCounty,Pennsylvania; John Jacob (born 1756), wasbaptized atChristLutheranChurch in York; and Daniel (1759-1817), servedin Capt.Fry'sCompany of3rd Battalion of York County militia duringtheRevolution,emigrated toColumbiana County, Ohio, where his willisrecorded. Itmentionssubstantial quantities of cloth, leading tothespeculation thathe mayhave been a weaver.

The spelling 'Musser' as well as 'Mosser' is used bythisfamilyinAmerica.'

1741 Marriage:3123 Translated and transcribed fromchurchrecordsofBischwiller Reformed Church: '1741 16 January weremarriedHansMichaelMoosser the single day-laborer here, legitimate sonofSamuelMooser,citizen-resident here, with Eva Maria,legitimatesurvivingdaughter ofthe deceased Melchior Elsasser, citizen andshoemakeratBilligheim.'

1758 Blimyer's Church:3135 'St. John's Lutheran andReformedchurchissituated south of Dallastown, and is familiarlyknownas'Blimyer'sChurch.' Among the original German settlers ofthislocality,anorganization was effected as early as 1758, and a smallloghouseforchurch and school purposes was built. The pastor served asateacher.Itwas then the only church in a large extent ofterritory.Traditionsayssome of the members who worshipped here before1800 came adistanceoftwelve miles. The religious services for more than ahundredyearswereconducted in the German language and many of thepastorswerenativeGerman.'

1751 Death of daughter Anna Maria:3136 Daughter Anna Maria, about2yearsofage, died in Grünwettersbach, Germany while father MicahelMosserwas'onhis way to Pennsylvania.'

1751 Immigration:3137 Hans Michel Moser, a passenger on theShipDukeofWirtenberg, which arrived from Rotterdam, on 16 October1751,with169passengers who subscribed to the qualifications. Atotalof406passengers were aboard.

1756 Baptism of Son John Jacob:3138 John Jacob Moser ofMichaelandMariaEva, born February 29, 1756, baptized August 29,1756.PerformedatChrist Evangelical Lutheran Church, City ofYork,YorkCounty,Pennsylvania.
