Obituary: Friday, August 2, 1918 Fergus Falls Daily Journal. TheCounty mourns the death of one of its earliest settlers and best ofmothers. The death of Mrs. Anna Marie Meyer Tomhave occurred at 3:15 Thursdayafternoon from complications of diseases incident to old age. Mrs.Tomhave was born in Germany Aug. 4, 1838, and would have been 80 yearsold next Sunday, the day of her funeral. She was married to Mr. JohnTomhave there and they emigrated to America 50 years ago, Mr. Tomhavecoming in the spring of 1868 to prepare a home, and she and her threechildren following in August of the same year. They settled first stFrontenac, MN., then moved to St. Paul, where they spend six monthsand in 1870 came to Fergus Falls township where Mr. Tomhave had takena pre-emption. There was no Fergus Falls City here then, only onestore marking the site of the town today, and there were no bridges.Like most of the pioneers, they came by ox team and forded the river. Her husband passed away in 1907. They were the parents of 11children, of whom four have preceded her in death. The survivingchildren are John J. Tomhave of Carlisle; H. A. Tomhave, a merchant ofMontevideo; Louis of Fergus Falls; Mrs. Chas. Holzbauer of Chinnook,Montana; Mrs. Ed. Kemnitz of this city; Albert C. of Fergus Fallstown, and George E. Tomhave, who now occupies the old home farm, alsoin Fergus Falls town, where her death took place. She was a devotedChristian, a good neighbor, and the best of mothers. Besides her children she is survived by three brothers residing inNebraska; and by 26 grandchildren and 16 great granchildren. Thefuneral will occur from the residence at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoonand from the German Evangelical church of which she has been alifelong member at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. Herrmann officiating. Her fivesons, and her son-in-law, Ed. kemnitz, will act as pallbearers.
